Updated: September 9, 2025
Description
Berwick Upon Tweed Public Slipway is situated on the south shore of the River Tweed, between the river entrance and Berwick’s commercial port.
Positioned west of the RNLI lifeboat station, this public slipway offers launching facilities primarily for small vessels and is especially popular with personal watercraft during the summer months.
Operators should take care not to obstruct access to the lifeboat station at any time.
Parking is readily available along the adjacent road and grass verge west of the slipway; however, no additional amenities are provided on-site.
The concrete pier of the RNLI station shelters the slipway from easterly winds and reduces lateral tidal flow in the immediate vicinity. Mariners should remain vigilant of the river’s tidal currents, which intensify further from the slipway.
Berwick Upon Tweed’s town center lies on the river’s north side, approximately a 30-minute walk from the slipway via the historic Old Bridge upstream. A beach is also accessible within a short walking distance to the east.
While the public slipway serves well for launching and recovering small boats, visitors arriving by sea may prefer to land directly on the nearby beach or utilize the leisure facilities available within the commercial port or town center.
