Updated: July 23, 2025
Description
North Queensferry Boat Club is located on the North shore of the Firth of Forth in North Queensferry which is the northern landing point of the iconic Forth Rail Bridge.
The club is located on the location of the old Railway Pier which was the location where rail passengers would embark on boats to cross the Firth of Forth before the Rail Bridge was constructed.
Rail passenger use declined after the opening of the Forth Raid Bridge, and other ferry traffic ended in the 1950s when the Forth Road Bridge opened. The Railway Pier is owned by Fife Council and now used by North Queensferry Boat Club.
The concrete slipway is suitable for all vehicles, and is used by the club to launch yachts with a tractor. Members can use private vehicles to launch smaller vessels.
The club has ample parking facilities, boat storage, a small clubhouse with basic catering facilities, toilets, and a workshop. There is freshwater available from outside taps.
The pier provides protection for the slipway from the West, but it is exposed to weather from the East.
North Queensferry is a charming old town, and stands in for Bridgetown in the CBBC show “Molly and Mac”. There are cafes available in the town center which is a short walk around the bay from North Queensferry Boat Club and the old Railway Pier.
