Kincardine Slipway
Old Ferry Slipway visible from the Kincardine Bridge, but with access ashore only via a locked gate.
Updated: July 23, 2025
Description
Kincardine Slipway is located on the North side of the Firth of Forth, just upstream of the Kincardine Bridge and slightly downstream of the Clackmamanshire Bridge.
The slipway is an old sandstone slip, once used by the ferry and now predominantly used by local fisherman. You can usually spot fishing vessels laid up on the slipway.
Its regular use ceased in the 1930s when the adjacent bridge opened to traffic, cutting demand for the ferries operating from the slip.
Access is via a locked gate, so you will need to speak with someone local to gain access.
There are no facilities at the slipway, so it is only really useful for an emergency stop over.
If you make it ashore, Kincardine has plenty of shops and pubs for a meal. The challenge is getting ashore from the slipway through the locked gates.
The area around the slipway has a lot of history, and you are likely to spot the derelict hulls of old vessels in the surrounding mud.
