Grangemouth Docks
Scotland’s largest container terminal.
Updated: September 3, 2025
Description
Grangemouth Docks are situated alongside the River Carron, with vessels able to enter from the Firth of Forth just to the East of the river mouth.
The docks, operated by Forth Ports, are Scotland’s largest port, handling 9 million tonnes of cargo per year across container, liquid, and general cargo terminals.
Traffic in the port is restricted to large commercial vessels, which must pass through a set of locks to enter. Once inside, there are numerous terminals spread across three large basins and one smaller basin, all connected by narrow cuts.
Major industry is located in the area around the port, so there are plenty of facilities close by and great access to the motorway and rail network.
